Prithvi Narayan Campus First Institution to Offer M.Phil. Programs in Pokhara

TU-PNC, 28 July 2019 – Prithvi Narayan Campus will be the first institution to offer M.Phil. Programs outside the Kathmandu valley, it is learnt.

The campus has already drafted the curriculum for M.Phil. programmes in 3 subjects: English, Social Science and Management and submitted the proposed curriculum to the Academic Council of Tribhuvan University for approval.

A delegation headed by the Campus Chief Prof. Dr. Chandra Bahadur Thapa visited Kathmandu to consult with the concerned authorities of TU, UGC and World Bank. The delegation included the coordinators of curriculum drafting subject committees: Prof. Bishwo Raj Adhikari of English, Prof. Dr. Lekh Nath Bhattarai of Social Science and Dr. Hari Prasad Pathak of Management, and QAA Director Dr. Min Pun.    

The proposed M.Phil. programs will be introduced in the campus from the next session as part of academic autonomy of Tribhuvan University, funded by UGC, Nepal through the TU Higher Education Reform Project.

According to the source, academic autonomous programs are facilitated for the accredited higher education institutions. Such institutions design their own courses, run classes and conduct examinations on their own independently.  

So far the campus offers 31 academic programs: 10 Bachelors and 21 Masters. The proposed M.Phil. programs would be introduced for the first  time in the history the campus.
