6th National Science Day Observed

TU-PNC, 19 Sept. 2018 – The 6th National Science Day is observed in Prithvi Narayan Campus, Institute of Science & Technology, Pokhara on 19 September 2018 to mark the establishment of the first public science college in Nepal.

The celebration was organized under the chairmanship of HoD of Chemistry and President of the Organizing Committee Prof. Dr. Akkal Dev Mishra.

According to the source, the science college was named Amrit Science College (ASCOL) in Kathmandu on 1 Ashoj 2013 BS, which was opened in honor of Amrit Man Pradhan who a veteran professor of chemistry and who led a group of teachers to open the science college. As the Government of Nepal has declared 1 Ashoj as the National Science Day in 2070 BS, the day is observed each year with different science related activities across Nepal.  

Prithvi Narayan Campus, Institute of Science & Technology, Pokhara organized a presentation program on contemporary scientific issues to mark the 6th National Science Day. The program was inaugurated by the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Environment of Gandaki Province Bikas Lamsal as chief guest.

The minister Lamsal expressed his best wishes and hoped to see the continued prosperity of science education in the campus. The program was also attended by Campus Chief Prof. Dr. Chandra Bahadur Thapa. Speaking at the program he said that the National Science Day is celebrated to spread the message of the importance of science in the daily life of people.

In the program, there were 5 presentations on topics related to various aspects of new developments in science. Prof. AD Mishra gave his presentation on the topic “Recent Trends of Science and Technology around Us”, Rishi Baral of ACAP on “Conservation of Snow Lopard by Citizen Scientists in Manang of Annapurna Conservation Area”, Sudesh Gyawali of Manipal College of Medical Sciences on “Do We Know Our Diseases Completely? (Exploring 3 Domains of Diseases)”, Dr. Kapil Adhikari of PRI on “Science Culture: An Abstract Noun?” and Dr. Ram Jeewan Yadav of Dept. of Chemistry, PN Campus on “4G Mobile Connectivity in Nepal: Issues & Resolutions”.

The theme of the 6th National Science Day 2018 was “Science and Technology: Sustainable Development and Prosperity” and was attended by faculty and students of the campus.

The program was organized in financial association with the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Education, Science & Technology, Nepal.  

Welcome speech was delivered by the Assistant Campus Chief Nanda Lal Adhikari and the program was hosted by a faculty at the Department of Chemistry Dr. Ram Jeewan Yadav.
