Presentations on the Use of IT in Biological Sciences

TU-PNC, 27 Dec. 2017 – The Department of Zoology, Prithvi Narayan Campus in collaboration with the Zoological Society of Pokhara, Nepal organized a presentation program today, which was attended by scholars from the Muroran Institute of Technology, Japan and Wakkanai Hokusei Gakuin University, Japan.

The presentation program was chaired by Kishor Kumar Pokharel, Head of the Department of Zoology, Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhara and welcome speech was delivered by the Vice-President of the Zoological Society of Pokhara Ganesh Timilsina.

Prof. Dr. Bishnu Prasad Gautam, a faculty at the Faculty of Integrated Media, Wakkanai Hokusei Gakuin University, Hokkaido, Japan gave a presentation on the topic “Revival of Traditional Equipments with Modern Mind: Smart Aamako Janto”. He spoke on the traditional Nepali equipments such as Janto, Dhiki, Nango, etc. which were more advanced than the Japanese traditional equipments used by agro-based communities. He said that agro-related traditional equipments are in endangered situations, which should be made smarter using internet-based technologies. It is learnt that Prof. Gautam is developing smart agro-related equipments from the traditional Nepali equipments to be used by the Nepali people, which will cost approximately 20 to 30 thousand Nepali rupees that may include all kinds of devices to operate the equipments. 

Dr. Kazuhiko Sato, an Associate Professor at the Division of Information and Electronic Engineering, Muroran Institute of Technology, Hokkaido, Japan gave his presentation on the topic “Collaborative E-Learning System for Unstable Environmant” which is based on a project in Kaski and supported by his institute. He said that by using this technology the school children in Nepal and the school children in Japan can be benefitted by exchanging each other’s culture through sharing pictures that will introduce to each other’s cultures.

Similarly, Kenya Kobayashi, an M.Sc. student at the Muroran Institute of Technology, Japan presented a paper on “A Study on Learning the Hatching and Releasing Data of Salmon”. Salmon is a species of fish available in Japanese sea.

Among the speakers who spoke a few words about the program were a student representative of science at Prithvi Narayan Campus, Prof. Dr. Shovakant Lamichhane, Dr. Tank Raj Adhikari, and Dr. Min Pun, Associate Professor of English at Prithvi Narayan Campus.

Closing the program, Dept Head Kishor Kumar Pokharel thank the scholars from Japan and other participants. The program was hosted by Ramji Gautam, a faculty of Prithvi Narayan Campus and Member Secretary of Zoological Society of Pokhara, Nepal.
